The Grand Parade 11:00AM August 25

Peggy La Porte named 2007 Festival Days Parade Grand Marshall
Peggy La Porte describes herself as a wife, mother of four, interior designer, fashion consultant and perpetual volunteer. To those who know her, she is so much more. For starters, she is beautiful, inside and out. She is selfless. She cares intensely about her family, her community, her church and those in need. She is also the recipient of the Franciscan Foundation Humanitarian of the Year Award, Citizen of the Year Award by the Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimist Woman of Distinction Award, and Recognition of Achievement from the Metropolitan King County Council.
Margaret Mead is the author of one of Peggy’s favorite quotes; “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” That’s what drove her to gather some equally caring friends around the table in her kitchen to explore how they could help solve a problem they saw emerging in Federal Way. The outcome is FUSION – Friends United to Shelter the Indigent, Oppressed and Needy – a non-profit, all -volunteer organization that provides transitional housing and support services for homeless women and their children in our community. FUSION has grown to be the most successful fundraiser in Federal Way, while promoting the arts and creating the summer’s most popular social event.
La Porte is the current chair of the Federal Way Arts Commission, has previously served on the board of the Federal Way Symphony, Federal Way Community Care giving Network and has been a volunteer in her children’s schools and her church since 1972.
For the executive board of the Festival Days Association the decision to Name Peggy this year’s Grand Marshall was an honor long overdue.

2007 Festival Days – Parade Announcer
Keith Eldridge, award-winning KOMO television reporter/anchor, is a well-known figure in Federal Way. He and his wife have lived in our neck of the woods since 1983, and he has long been a parade fixture announcing each entry as it passed by. Two years ago, the Festival Days organizers honored him and his many broadcasting accomplishments by naming him parade Grand Marshall. Again, this year he will be back at his old stand, microphone in hand, to let parade watchers know about the floats and marchers coming their way.
If you want to say hello to Keith, look for him at the announcer’s stage on 20th Street South, across from the Best Western Executel.
Joining Keith on the announcer’s stage and review stand will be parade judges Beth Zupita, Jem Wear and Sterling Smith. Awards for the best floats, drill teams, marching bands and specialty entries will be announced and presented at the community stage at The Commons at the conclusion of the parade.
